(Also COM 371, LACL 371); 4 hours; 4 credits; An examination of the role of the mass media as cultural institutions that shape the images and self-images of marginalized groups. The course engages with definitions based on, but not limited to, age, disability, ethnicity, gender, race, and sexuality. Prerequisites: COM 150 or a 100-level and a 200-level ANT or SOC course.
